Bobby Mathews' novels and short stories explore the dark and desperate underpinnings of the modern South. His novels include Living the Gimmick and Magic City Blues. His latest book is a collection of short stories called Negative Tilt. His story, "The Funeral Suit" was selected for the 2024 edition of Best American Mystery & Suspense, while his story "Negative Tilt" won the Derringer Award for best mystery story. He lives in Hoover, where he helps coach baseball and procrastinates on a near-professional basis.
