Virtual Art & Calligraphy Lessons from Kalli Camp Academy
Facilitator: Heather McKelvey
Instructor: Jane Matsumoto
Join us in June for a mini calligraphy camp! Kalli Camp Academy, a virtual calligraphy and art school owned by guild member Heather McKelvey, will be presenting four classes* from our Class Archive. Bring your pointed pen and watercolor supplies and enjoy the following classes: Offhand Flourishing and Cartouche, Monoline and Pointed Pen Uncial, and Flower Shower! Watercolor Carnations, all taught by calligrapher and artist Jane Matsumoto (Instagram @ginkgoarts).
Offhand Flourishing and Cartouche
Learn how to put the fundamental strokes of off-hand flourishing and the basic elements for cartouches together to create your own feathers, off-hand flourishes, and cartouches with ease!
In session 1, you will learn Monoline Uncial using a pencil (or marker). The monoline technique is a great way to learn the basic forms of any script. It is also a fun way to change up your writing style using everyday writing tools such as a pencil or marker or fountain pen.
Pointed Pen Uncial
In session 2, I will introduce you to pointed pen uncial with some warmup exercises. Then, we will go through the script with a pencil and then ink up a nib!
Flower Shower! Watercolor Carnations
Dianthus caryophyllus, more commonly known as the Carnation, is a flower used to express love, admiration, gratitude, and remembrance. The word "Dianthus" comes from Greek for "heavenly flower". Learn to paint watercolor carnations with a wedge or angled brush
