Bib & Tucker Sewing Co-op artist-in-residence Miriam Omura is creating a community project called "You, Me, and Us."
Participants are asked to submit a 10" x 10" piece of fabric that captures who they are, along with five words describing themselves. She will assist in embroidering those words onto the cloth and sew into a larger piece.
Miriam's Statement: During this project I have found a lot of people want to do the embellishment themselves. I am starting to lead workshops in conjunction with Bib and Tucker Sew Op, where people can meet in groups and I will walk people though basic stitches and how to think about what words they might like to use. I will be providing basic materials needed to make a square including embroidery hoops, fabric, and embroidery thread; but participants are welcome to bring any materials they want to use. I am a weaving and textile artist based in Birmingham, Alabama. You can learn more about my work and who I am on my website, miriamomura.com.
